Synopsis
Jin-tae est un cireur de chaussures qui consacre ses modestes ressources à l'éducation de son frère cadet, Jin-suk, et espère envoyer prochainement celui-ci à l'Université. Leur mère, veuve et handicapée, tient une échoppe avec l'aide de la fiancée de Jin-tae, Young-shin, qu'elle a recueillie quelques années plus tôt.
Tous les espoirs de cette famille s'effondrent brutalement le 25 juin 1950, lorsque la guerre éclate. Jin-suk est recruté de force et envoyé sur le front. Jin-tae tente vainement d'intercéder, et subit le même sort. Les deux frères rejoignent cette armée du Sud, mal équipée, mal nourrie, mal organisée, harcelée jour et nuit par un ennemi supérieur en nombre et en force... www.allocine.fr

pas mal ce film de guerre l'ayant vu au cine a sa sortie en coree  je me rappelle pour l'avant premiere de taegukgi Jackie Chan etait venu a Seoul voir le film au COEX

un film tres classe qui montre que les coreens ont du potentiel pour produire de superbes films.
la guerre de coree est filmee a travers l'histoire de deux frere qui sont engages de force dans l'armee.
les effets speciaux sont trop forts, le scenario l'est tout autant. le film n'a rien a envier aux productions occidentales.

il parait qu'il sort en france le 11 mai !!!! et dire que je cherchais une mise sur le marché du dvd en zone 2... je pouvais attendre  !!! mais je suis tjrs tenté pour l'acheter en zone 1... Aprés l'avoir vu en divx, c'est vrai qu'il est genial !!!!(bien sur, ca n'engage que moi, là!! lol) Par contre le voir en français... heu je sais pas si je vais apprécier, enfin..par contre, pouvoir le voir sur grand écran, hmmmmm !! YEEEEESSSS !!!!!!

vue vendredi en vostfr (paris powaaaaa) le film tiens bien toutes ses promesses , les yeux en prennent a toutes les sauces une p tit larme en voyant Lee Eun Ju  film a voir absoluement

Wrote a review a few weeks ago after watching it on big screen. Then watched it again on DVD, listened to the soundtrack. Had so many thoughts that I had to write something again.
Once in a while, which in this case has been years, comes a movie that makes me want to rise above the meager existance to be something larger than life, to be part of the movie. This movie did that to me.
It started with the life of two brothers before the war, a life that was almost perfect until the war shatters it. Everything goes downhill from there. Despite all their best intentions, the two brothers helplessly watched their fate sinking and themselves drifting apart. Overall it’s a very intense tragedy, dotted with only moments of hope and triumgh, when love breaks through the darkness.
The unconditional love between the two brothers, tangled with cruelty of war, made the movie so heart-wrenching that it's almost painful to watch. I kept telling myself that it's just a movie so I would't tearing up like a girl. Even listening to the soundtrack CD turned out to be an emotional experience. And if I can only watch one movie for the rest of my life, this would be it.
I can't imagine what it feels like to be the little brother who had to carry this for the next 50 years, not knowing where his brother is, and with the pair of shoes to remind him that they had it perfect for a while.
Being a big war-movie fan, I have watched a ton of them. This one is definitely among the best. Comparing to "Saving Private Ryan", this movie gives characters a more human touch. "SPR" seems to moralize too much, no flaws, just hero's. The result is the characters came off plain and two-dimensional. Agree with some reviewer’s comments that "SPR almost seems like nothing more than a visually stunning, flag-waving movie". By the way, I am a big fan of Steven Spielburg and Tom Hanks, so there wasn't any bias there. On a side note, "Band of brothers", on the contrary, is very good.
As for special effects, it’s good. But we have seen it all in big-budget Hollywood movies, so that’s not what made this movie special. It’s the intense human emotion made this movie an unforgettable experience. "Tae Guk Gi" is a reminder of the difference between art and entertainment, a reminder that wars, as well as movies, are not about bang-bang actions and special effects. They are about human beings.
What I don't get, is how a mediocre subtitled movies such as "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and "Hero" gets so much marketing effort and a truly amazing one like this gets nothing. By the way, I am a Chinese. So I guess that wasn't a very patriotic thing to say. IMHO, "Hero" is just a compilation of beautiful pictures. "Crouching Tiger" is even worse. (It's probably because I was able to understand the dialogue in its original and can tell how little effort was put into anything other than making the pictures look pretty.)
On a side note, this movie affected me so deeply that I only wish those Chinese who are so gung-ho about taking military action on Taiwan could watch this movie.
Hats off to Koreans for making such a great epic. I think this one deserve an Oscar, not just Best Foreign File, but Best Film overall. If a movie like “Lord of the Ring” can win something, so should this.
The only complaints that I could think of are: 1. The music during the beginning of the movie seems overly sentimental. 2. The camera shakes too much during action scenes, probably deliberately, to create the chaos with a limited budget. But I don't have a problem with the length of the movie. The 2.5 hrs felt like nothing once you are drawn into the intensity of the movie. Actually when the movie finished, I wished it didn’t have to end, or at least didn’t have to end like that.
For some viewers who might balk at the idea of watching a subtitled movie, I never liked subtitled movies either, until this one. It’s extra work, but it’s worth it.
As for some reviewer shooting down the movie because of a Hershey Bar with barcode, give me a break. I would rather watch a movie like this with 10 bloopers than one that gets all the details right but doesn’t touch a soul.
If you like the movie, I would also recommend "When trumpets fade" and "Band of Brothers".

scenes de combat hyperréalistes, ca prend aux tripes
on voit le deroulement du conflit, la vie des soldats
et finalement, on se prend au jeu avec l'histoire des deux freres
a voir absolument

a good war movie! why all the people want to compare it with Ryan's soldier? for me, the only thing in common is because it's about a war.... this story is beautiful, the 2 mains actors are good!
très bon film! je suis très contente de l'avoir vu! won bin, connu pour être une "belle gueule", prouve que le physique ne fait pas tout.... juste une petite question : je voulais savoir pourquoi Jin-tae, le grand frère, a décidé de passer dans le camp des Rouges... le reste, je suis d'accord sur le fait qu'il veuille sauver son frère, mais pourquoi être allé chez les Rouges? merci pour vos réponses!
